The James Derivan Family left Liverpool on a ship called "Chaos" (embarkation date is unknown) during the "Great Irish Potato Famine" as did many other Irish farmers of the time and arrived in New York, New York (Elias Island ?) September 6, 1847. James Sr. and Jr. were listed as laborers. Their name was spelled "DERVAN" and the entry is listed under "Biddy Derivan". James Sr.'s age was given as 43, Bridget's as 36. Additional name on the list was Mary also age 23 , listed as a servant. Original point of origin believed to be Weyford County, Ireland.
